Why was HiCal unavailable?
First of all, we are sorry for the inconvenience. HiCal has been entirely unavailable since March 10th, 2021, due to a fire in a data center in Strasbourg, France, in which HiCal was hosted. On that day, the website was also offline, so that we published a post on our Facebook page to inform about this incident.
When did HiCal become available again?
Unfortunately, the server on which HiCal was hosted has been destroyed, so that we needed some time in order to recover. The website is back online since March 13th. The iPhone/iPad and Android apps needed to be updated in order to work again. The iPhone/iPad update version 2.0.10 is available since March 20th. The Android update version 2.0.4 is available since March 26th.
Is there any loss of data?
The data received by our server between March 9th, 2021 at 11:05pm UTC and March 10th, 2021 at around 02:42am UTC have been lost. However, the groups and calendars that are on your devices can be recovered. Please do not uninstall HiCal and update it in order to recover the events created past March 9th.
Can I recover my account/calendar data?
If you registered your account before December 27th, 2020, you can continue using your account and recover the groups and events created after March 9th: they will be sent automatically from your device to our server, when launching the updated app. (Please note that this will be done once per account.)
If you registered your account past December 27th, 2020 and before March 9th at 11:05pm UTC, you can also continue using your account. However, if you have edited your calendars between March 9th at 11:05pm and March 10th at 02:42am UTC, or if you have unsynced events, please use the export feature to recover your data. You will also need to logout and login again using the app to access your account.
If you have created your account after March 9th, 2021 at 11:05pm UTC, unfortunately, your account cannot be recovered, as we are unable to authenticate you. However, please note that the updated app has an export feature, which allows you to open the events of all of the groups you are in, as they currently are on your device, in other calendar apps and services. Events and comments can be exported by group in the iCalendar format (.ics file extension), a widely compatible format.
